"East German Politicians: WILLI STOPH, OPS Chairman of East Germany´s Council of Ministers since 1976; born in Berlin, a former brick layer and mason, he first joined the Communist Party in 1931. After the division of Germany he became head of the SED´s Economic Politicy Division in 1948; joined the Concil Committee in 1950, the Politburo of the SED in 1953; Chairman of the Central Committee 1953 to date;member of the People´s Chamber 1950 to the present day; Council of State 1963;- Chairman of Council of Ministers 1964- 1973 and 1976 to date."
