"Lest I appear under false pretenses let me say at once that, in agreement with those who have invited me to speak, this will not be a lecture on the history of medicine. Although a doctor is the ostensible subject, this will not be a discussion of his medical activities, nor even a description of his famous hospital in Lambaréné. I call this talk "some bibliographical digressions," because I happen to be a librarian and an historian, and because during the past few years I have been engaged in the task of gathering - "collecting," if you will - writing by and about Dr. Schweitzer.
